Table ronde sur la photographie au Cameroun

Round table on photography in Cameroon

As part of YaPhoto 2017 entitled Picturing the Present, a round table on Cameroonian photography will take place at OTHNI on Thursday 30 November from 10h à 12h00.

Starting from the observation of the absence of Cameroonian photographers in one of the most important African photography event, this round table will propose to take an objective look at the state of this creative field in Cameroon.

What are the photographic and artistic discourses developed by local professional and emerging practitioners? Which audiences do they address? How do they reflect the various aspects of Cameroonian cultures and societies? What sorts of images are absent from local photography production. What can be said about the absence of female photographers? What obstacles are local photographers confronted with? What are the forms of sustainability existing on local and international scenes, beyond commercial photography? What forms of support to local photographers can be imagined?

To debate these questions, Christine Eyene, art critic and historian, co-founder of YaPhoto – Yaounde Photo Network, curator of the next Summer of Photography at Bozar, Brussels and artistic director of 4th International Biennial of Casablanca, will be in conversation with Madeleine Mbida, artist and co-founder of Nkongsamba Photography Festival, Rodrig Mbock, photographer, graphic designer, and co-founder of Collectif Kamera and 4×4 project, Yvon Ngassam, photographer, and Parfait Tabapsi, founding editor of the cultural magazine Mosaïques.

The conversation will be followed by a guided tour of the exhibition Picturing the Present currently on show at OTHNI.
